Ego House Architects' Award-Winning Design Balances City Life and Serenity

The design of FA House is unique in its simplicity and complexity. Despite the intricate layout of the spaces, the architects aimed to create a straightforward living environment for a modern family. The main double-height space, the studio, is filled with a powerful stream of light that reflects off the contrasting surfaces of the walls and the textured edges of the furniture. This interplay of light and shadow has a significant emotional impact, demonstrating the variability of the environment.

One of the standout features of the FA House is the staircase located in the two-height space. The fence, made of round metal pipes welded at sharp angles, resembles trees leaning in a strong wind. This design element serves as the main accent in the living room, adding a touch of nature to the modern setting.

Understanding the need for privacy in a bustling city, Ego House Architects incorporated a separate, independent guest block into the design. This space opens into the common area of the studio, offering a comfortable and isolated living area for guests. This thoughtful design feature underscores the architects' belief in the importance of privacy in residential design.

The FA House, located in Kharkiv, Ukraine, was a project that spanned from April 2019 to August 2021. Despite the challenges posed by the complexity of the spaces, the design team, comprising Muratov Maksym, Manko Alesya, and Olga Shatkovskaya, managed to create a simple yet elegant design that caters to the needs of a modern family.

The design's excellence was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to designs that exhibit outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The FA House, with its remarkable level of excellence and ability to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder, truly deserves this accolade.
